The Madar at Aljada leisure complex was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and will be 1.9 million square feet in size, making it the largest of its kind in the Northern Emirates. Madar offers a variety of existing attractions including the Aljada Discovery Centre, the Zad food village and drive-through, a skatepark, a children’s adventure playground, a drive-in cinema, an indoor event space, a waterplay area, and an outdoor amphitheater.

It is intended for the construction to be completed over a period of 12 months. Taking this into account, the construction has been divided into two zones to make planning easier. A separate team will be assigned to each zone. Originally the design called for RCC columns. As a result, the construction of the roof could not be completed until the columns were completed and cast before the roof was erected. With the structure now in steel, the critical path shifted to steel completion, which can be accomplished much sooner.

Aljada has constructed similar designs in the past. However, phase 2 will feature another interesting design feature. The existing buildings and the Phase 2 building would all have GRC fins, but the Phase 2 building would also have a walkable GRC roof.
